Every week our Weekly Buys engine scans the sealed market for a defensible pick, and for weeks running it has published none in the box and ETB band. That is not caution for its own sake. The tape was genuinely dead: of the 651 sealed products between $100 and $550 carrying a 30 day change on August 26, 2026, exactly six showed even half a percent of positive momentum, and the median 30 day change across them was +0.01%.
Why forcing a pick would be dishonest
A sealed recommendation needs two independent supports: positive momentum and a defensible per-pack price against the print clock. On a dead flat tape the momentum leg does not exist, so any pick would stand on one leg and a story. Our engine says so in public each week instead of manufacturing conviction. Thin beats forced.
What historically thaws a sealed freeze: a confirmed print stop moving product past the 2.3x MSRP calibration line that separates genuinely out of print SWSH sets from freely printed ones, a rotation announcement, or a chase reprint scare. Until one of those arrives, the sealed market is paying you nothing to hold risk that singles are paying for elsewhere.
Tape statistics computed live at Weekly Buys build time from tracked sealed products with 30 day change on record, August 26, 2026. That field is a current-state column on the sealed catalog with no stored history, and our daily sealed price series begins 2026-08-25, so the three figures in the stat row above cannot be recomputed for their own date and are published as they were read. The same band on 2026-09-22 reads 653 products with a change on record, a median of +0.51% and 329 above the half-percent line, so the freeze described here has since thawed. Print clock calibration: 17 known out of print SWSH sets all read at or above 2.3x MSRP on their cheapest ETB; freely printed sets read at or below 1.6x.
