No modern set owns collector hearts like 151, and no set demonstrates our two hardest-won findings more cleanly. Finding one: launch buyers overpay, reliably. Finding two: gem rates drift, and drift is money. 151 managed to prove both inside eighteen months.

Act one: the crash nobody should have bought and everybody did
151 slid 32.2% between January and June 2025 as supply caught up, then more than doubled off the bottom: a buyer at the $876.53 June low held a set worth $2,059.35 at the last reading before this piece. April 2025 is where the fall is usually quoted, at $1,043, and it was not the bottom; the tape kept going for another two months. Our series for this set opens on January 27, 2025, sixteen months after it was released, so this is a mid-life drawdown and recovery and not a launch-window one; we hold no data on its first ninety days. The set did not become better; the print window closed and the demand that was always there met a supply that finally stopped growing. The rule generalizes and 151 is its best exhibit.
Act two is quieter and meaner. The set's flagship illustration-rare Pikachu now gems 8.5% of recent submissions against 26.9% lifetime: 28 tens in the 329 slabs added between August 8 and August 20, 2026, against 8,833 in 32,789 on the registry. Whoever is grading 151 today pays triple the effective cost per PSA 10 that 2024 submitters paid, which raises the floor under existing tens exactly as it punishes the grade-it-yourself thesis the recovery rally invited. The set rewarded patience once and is now taxing impatience again, in a different instrument.
