Collecting writes its histories after the fact, which is why every mania reads as obvious in hindsight. Mega Charizard X ex is giving us something rarer: a mania unfolding inside instruments that record it daily. Every number below will look different in three months, and that is precisely the point of publishing them now.
The race between supply and demand, in one ratio
Divide the two headline numbers: the registry adds roughly 730 slabs a week while the PSA 10 market absorbs about 44. The rest sit in collections, storefronts, and vaults, waiting. That overhang is the mania's fuel gauge: as long as fresh demand outbids fresh supply, the $2,001 median holds. Our Grading Throughput study found this card's JAPANESE sibling adding 979 slabs weekly in M2 Inferno X on top of the English print, and the MEP promo version is graded at handout scale. Summed across its three prints, certified Mega Charizard X supply is growing by roughly 1,700 slabs a week before the promo line, ahead of the fastest SINGLE card we track, the Japanese Mega Gengar ex at 1,603. That is a sum across prints against single cards, which is not the same comparison, and it is the honest way to say it.
The bear case is the Population Growth Tax arriving on schedule: our first measured window already shows Ascended Heroes chases losing 3-5% while their registries grew double digits. The bull case is the Umbreon Standard: a card can carry an enormous, growing registry indefinitely IF its sales velocity keeps pace, and 43.8 weekly sales is genuinely Umbreon-class absorption. Which case wins is exactly what the next quarter of tape will record.
