Prismatic Evolutions is the era's shelf-empty phenomenon, and its crown jewel, the Umbreon ex special illustration rare, is the most requested card in Cynthia's logs. The tape respects none of that. In our measured window the card's registry added roughly 190 slabs a week and its PSA 10 median went from $6,775 on July 21 to $6,225 on August 10, the last graded reading before this piece. That is not a smooth slide: the same series printed $4,550 on July 27 in between, on a tape that answers weekly. Scarce at retail is not scarce at the grader.
The Evolving Skies comparison everyone makes, honestly scored
The bull case for Prismatic is that Umbreon ex becomes the next Umbreon VMAX. The Umbreon Standard dossier shows what that requires: absorption. The elder card's registry grows AND its price holds because 36.8 verified sales a week clear the new supply. Prismatic's Umbreon is growing its registry at comparable speed WITHOUT that clearance rate yet, and the Population Growth Tax is collecting on the difference: -8.1% while hype peaked. The heir needs its demand engine to catch its printing press, and the tape will show the week it does.
The genuinely bullish oddity hides in Pikachu ex: it gems 40.6% recently against 26.6% lifetime, one of only sixteen meaningful LOOSENERS in our drift study. Fresh tens are getting cheaper to mint exactly while the market's attention sits on its neighbor. If you want the contrarian Prismatic trade, the tape says it is not the Umbreon.
Registry and gem figures from daily PSA snapshots: Umbreon ex's 21,003 is the reading of August 21 and the +190 a week is measured across the August 6 and August 21 snapshots (20,596 to 21,003); Pikachu ex's 26.6% is gems over total at its first snapshot, August 3, and the 40.6% is the gem share of the 283 slabs added by August 21. Medians are verified eBay solds from the graded snapshot ledger, which answered this card weekly in the window: the readings are $6,774.50 on July 21, $4,550 on July 27, $6,225 on August 3 and again on August 10, and the -8.1% is the first against the last of those, so it is a July 21 to August 10 move and not a move to the publication date. The box simulation is honestly absent: Prismatic boxes trade above the modern rippable band our sealed tracker covers, so no Monte Carlo is published rather than an estimated one. Not financial advice.
