No modern set distorts the market like Evolving Skies. Its booster box trades at $2,445, five times the median booster box of its own era and more than twice the next dearest, and our instruments agree on why: this is not a set priced as packs, it is a derivative priced off two cards, Umbreon VMAX and Rayquaza VMAX, with everything else along for the ride.
The simulation says what the box price already knows
Our 10,000-box simulation returns a median box of $406 and an EV of $820 against the $2,445 cost: 12.4% of boxes profit and 73.9% do not reach half their cost. Sealed buyers are not confused; they are not buying packs at all. They are buying a sealed claim on future Umbreon supply, and the Lottery Ticket Index shows the market pricing that claim at 33x the pack cost, the fame-premium extreme of the whole board. The cheap tickets live elsewhere, as that study keeps finding.
What makes the set historically strange is the cliff below the summit. Per Where the Money Sleeps, the Sword & Shield era concentrates 48.7% of its value in its top 1%, the most top-heavy cohort in the game, and Evolving Skies IS that statistic: beyond the alt-art peak (Umbreon, Rayquaza, Sylveon, the eeveelution run), the set's commons swim in the era's seven-cent bulk ocean measured in Bulk's Hidden Floor. A Base Set box was a portfolio; an Evolving Skies box is a lottery ticket on one painting.

TWO CAVEATS THE SIMULATION EARNS. It deals hits at one hardcoded Scarlet & Violet triple (double rare 1 in 4, illustration rare 1 in 12, secret 1 in 20) applied to every set whatever its era, and it draws uniformly inside a tier, so a Sword & Shield set whose alt arts are numbered ABOVE the printed total, which is exactly Evolving Skies, has its Umbreon dealt many times its measured rate: the published study for this set puts the alt-art VMAX tier at 1 in 332 packs and this Umbreon at roughly 1 in 2,000. Every figure here therefore reads RICHER than the product is, and the 12.4% profit share is a ceiling rather than an estimate; the 73.9% below half cost is the reading that survives the bias. The era-peer multiple was recomputed on 2026-09-22 across the twelve Sword & Shield booster boxes we track: Evolving Skies $2,408.12 against a $483.63 era median and a $968.97 next-dearest Fusion Strike.
